Enter the Gungeon: A Fresh Take on the Nintendo Switch Experience
Introduction to a Roguelike Classic
Last week marked the arrival of Enter the Gungeon on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s a match made in gaming heaven. While there are minor bugs and some control quirks (which can be fully customized), the overall gameplay is highly enjoyable. This version stands out as the most user-kind iteration yet, thanks to balancing adjustments that have not yet been implemented in its PS4,Xbox One,or PC counterparts.
What is Enter The Gungeon?
For those unfamiliar with it,Enter the Gungeon is an engaging roguelike bullet hell shooter. Players navigate through various rooms filled with enemies while collecting currency and an array of firearms until thay confront a boss—frequently enough leading to either swift defeat or a narrow escape.Upon death, players start anew from scratch on a different floor, making each run unique due to its random configurations. The layout of each level, enemy types encountered, and weapon pickups are all steadfast by chance.
The Thrill of Randomness
This element of randomness contributes substantially to its replayability even nearly two years post-launch. However, this unpredictability can also render gameplay daunting at times. Unlike The Binding of Isaac, which offers quick sessions with constant changes or Rogue Legacy, where progress carries over between runs, Enter the Gungeon leans towards being more grind-intensive and less forgiving.Although players can unlock new characters for future attempts, none retain upgrades or enhancements from previous runs—a factor that adds to its challenge.
Moreover, lower-level floors tend to be expansive; thus players may invest considerable time only for their efforts to vanish due to an unfortunate misstep.
Enhanced Gameplay on Switch
Fortunately for Switch users, this version provides slightly more leniency without compromising on challenge or variety. Players will find themselves rewarded with increased drops such as money and weapons throughout their journey while warp points between rooms are more frequent than before. These “quality-of-life improvements,” as developer Dodge Roll refers to them—are set for inclusion in an upcoming Advanced Gungeons & Dragons update slated for early 2018.
Due to timing around its release date on Switch platforms receiving these enhancements first makes it one of the most enjoyable ways currently available for playing this title.
currency Flowing Freely
In my experience playing through multiple sessions on Switch—by just my second room—I often had amassed over one hundred casings (the game’s currency). This newfound wealth allowed me access into dungeon shops rather than merely gazing longingly at their wares!
Addressing Flaws
However perfect it may seem; no game is without flaws! Some users have reported frequent crashes during gameplay—a concern Dodge Roll acknowledges and aims to rectify—especially when played in docked mode. Additionally, while control schemes exist that allow customization options; using Pro Controller remains optimal given how crucial simultaneous running/shooting/aiming becomes during intense moments within battles.
I highly recommend remapping controls right from your initial play session so you can bind essential actions conveniently onto bumper/triggers!
Visual Appeal
Despite these issues mentioned earlier—the visuals shine brightly! On handheld mode specifically—the compact screen proximity enhances clarity providing sharper graphics overall which positively impacts performance too!
Local Co-op Considerations
Another feature worth noting is local co-op support via Joy-Con controllers; however given how vital quick reflexes are within gameplay—it might prove cumbersome using detached Joy-Cons alone! Nevertheless,Enter The Gungeon continues thriving as an exceptional solo dungeon crawler experience irrespective!
Enter The Gungeon delivers thrilling action combined with strategic depth making it well-suited for both newcomers seeking adventure alongside seasoned veterans looking forward returning back into chaotic dungeons once again!
