The Nintendo Switch: A Journey Through Gaming Delusions
The Illusion of Playtime
I’ve reached a new level of self-deception regarding my ownership of the Nintendo Switch. Initially, I believed I would dive into every game I purchased or downloaded from the eShop. Now, my delusion has evolved to simply hoping to use my console at all. Unfortunately, it seems to die on me just when I’m ready to play.
A Cost-Effective Fantasy
At least this latest fantasy is less expensive than the previous one. I’m failing before even indulging in a gaming spree. Many fellow Switch owners share this peculiar relationship with their device—an irrational approach towards acquiring and engaging with games. Deep down, I know that I’m in denial about how well it can fulfill its promises.
I genuinely enjoy the console and am even more enamored by its concept. It offers the potential for playing an array of fantastic games anywhere and anytime, which justifies lugging it around daily as I commute to work—always hoping for a moment to play.
Misjudged Time Slots
Like many other Switch enthusiasts, I’ve significantly overestimated how much spare time exists in my day-to-day life for gaming sessions. Sure, I’ve managed some gameplay during subway rides in New York City or while relaxing in bed at night; however, I’ve barely scratched the surface when it comes to exploring other titles stored on my device like Fire Emblem, Golf Story, Katana Zero, Dragon Quest Builders 2, and Creature in the Well.
This was merely one aspect of my previous miscalculations; apparently, I’ve also misjudged how long its battery can sustain itself under regular usage patterns.
Battery Woes
These days, I’m not even making trips to the eShop because my system frequently loses power while tucked away in my bag—preventing me from accessing new games when I arrive at work. More often than not, it’s completely drained right when I’m eager to start playing something.
It’s important to note that since acquiring this device back in early 2017, I’ve primarily used (or intended) it as a portable console. Sometimes it retains charge during sleep mode; other times? Not so much! Occasionally it’ll lose power overnight while on standby; other times it’ll last several days without needing a recharge.
This inconsistency led me into an unfortunate situation last Friday: eager to purchase The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening along with Untitled Goose Game, only for disappointment as I powered up the system only to see that dreaded dead battery icon flash before me.
After plugging it into charge and setting it aside during work hours, I left without having made any purchases from eShop due solely to time constraints—I opted instead for some Apple Arcade fun on my iPhone during subway commutes.
Weekend Disappointments
On Saturday morning came another attempt—I pulled out my Switch again with hopes high for buying both Zelda titles but found myself facing yet another low battery warning despite managing somehow still purchasing them both! Then came an unexpected weekend getaway where once again left behind was my trusty console—and upon returning home later that week? Surprise! Its battery had died while browsing through unplayed titles!
Clearly indicating that either something is wrong with its battery or perhaps sleep mode isn’t functioning effectively enough—it’s evident now that there’s been a shift within myself too: moving from enjoying gameplay experiences toward merely accumulating games—with intentions now overshadowing actual enjoyment—all whilst neglecting proper care needed for keeping everything charged up!
Holding Onto Hope
Despite these setbacks though? There remains one persistent delusion overriding all others: eventually catching up on every single game waiting patiently within reach will happen someday soon! I’ll continue charging up this beloved system regularly alongside tossing into bags expecting each outing will lead closer towards completing yet another title off list!
Any moment now…
